The importance of trust
Despite all our attempts to pretend otherwise, life is ultimately out of our control.
One of the biggest turning points, in terms of upgrading our happiness levels, is learning to trust one’s own process and other people’s. Essentially, we may as well go with the flow and enjoy the ride.
Easier said than done, but so worth the effort — here’s how to put it into practice:
1. Trust Your Journey
You can do everything in your power to create a desired outcome, but let go of your attachment to the results. Trust that what’s meant to be will be.
If the end result in a situation isn’t what you hoped for, reframe it and be aware that it may well be what you need. Remember life has a way of guiding you to the right place, you will find you have all the tools required to make it work anyway and the journey is more important than the destination.
When a ‘life door’ closes, take time to process how you feel, reflect and step back to see the bigger picture, and then look for new opportunities.
2. Trust Their Journey
Trusting everyone else’s journey is as important as trusting your own. Accepting they’re in a process too (a.k.a their own personal ‘school of life’).
If you try to help or fix someone, even if invited, you’re likely taking yourself out of your own process, interrupting their very important learning experience and, harsh but true, wasting your time. As difficult as it can be to see a loved one going through a tricky patch, it’s a fundamental aspect of personal development to work things out for ourselves. This process shapes how we relate to problems that arise in the future and the aspects of ourselves that are revealed can be game-changing.
3. Trust in the Not Knowing
Any time in between jobs, relationships or homes can be pretty scary but, if you can stop worrying and let go of the outcome, it can create opportunities for the unknown — maybe something more inspiring, better related to our true nature and, most importantly, truly aligned with our authentic desires.
Set your intentions, do what you can to make things happen, then let go and let life guide you.
