Organic beauty is booming, but finding brands that are actually organic can be tricky. Like vegan make-up, ‘organic make-up’ is a term that’s bandied around even when it doesn’t apply to all the products in a range. Unlike vegan, however, for a brand to be certified organic, it has a lot of hoops to jump through.
Though it can still be written on a product, if it contains a small amount of organic ingredients, people are wising up to inaccurate labelling and are increasingly looking for a Soil Association certificate. This proves it complies with COSMOS-standards, which are the creme de la creme for safety and efficiency of products.
In short, organic beauty includes brands that make their products from high quality, organically farmed ingredients — which haven’t been sprayed with chemicals and herbicides.
Unfortunately the UK is kind of lagging when it comes to organic make-up, so watch out for the P&P with the pioneering US and Australian brands.
