Eat Yourself Healthy with Dr Megan Rossi
Dr Megan Rossi – the antipodean gut expert whose new book, Eat Yourself Healthy, has taken the food world by storm and made her an Instagram hit with over 130,000 followers – wants to set you a challenge. Eat 30 different plant-based foods a week. Don’t panic, she insists it’s easier than it sounds.
“Instead of having kitchen salt on the table, have a bottle of mixed seeds,” she offers. “That’s four points right there. Don’t always get red peppers, buy yellow and green ones as well. Don’t buy one type of lettuce, get the multipack. Tweaks like that can really get you to that target.
“Don’t get fixated on cutting out” she continues. “You can still eat your favourite food. But I’ve seen so many improvements from this diet.”
Dr Megan’s passion is palpable; she talks about patients who’ve reversed diabetes just by following her protocol. Of gut health, Dr Megan beams: “It really is a landmark scientific discovery. It’s one of the reasons why I wanted to write the book; it’s not just another trend, like a low-fat or high-protein diet. It’s not just one or two research groups looking into this. It is thousands.
“Pretty much every research group,” she adds, “whatever they are doing – drugs, diet, psychotherapy – will look to see what it’s doing to the gut. They’re all starting to collect gut outcomes because this is a major scientific discovery. That’s why it’s revolutionising what it means to be human.”
