Amethyst: The February Birthstone of purification and protection
Amiee Carlton, founder of Liferocks.store, attempts to bring the “out there” here, and unravel the minefield that is Crystals. Amiee is an energy and motivational coach. She uses crystals as a modality for realignment and stimulation of the subtle bodies. Her aim is to educate us on the vibrational powers of crystals one month at a time.
This month we are going to learn about Amethyst
Amethyst is a very well known crystal. Pretty much all of us, whether we love crystals or not have heard of an amethyst. We may have bought one in a museum as a kid or a ring as a teenager. It’s certainly a stone of the masses.
It’s a funny thing when it comes to stones that are commonly known about or easy to source. People seem to think the more common the stone, the less “good” it is. In fact, the truth is the exact opposite.
A stone that is widely known about is usually a stone that many many people resonate and connect with. Their frequency is gentle, yet consistent and helpful to those who are drawn to it. They often hold many supportive properties that run across the board of what people need in their lives.
This is certainly true of the amethyst
Amethyst is a stone of purification and protection, supportive in reducing anxiety and calming frayed nerves. It works to channel and calm the energy frequency in the system working to dissipate feelings of stress and anxiety; in turn, reducing negative thinking and darkness. This support in creating a calming flow in the body will work to reduce tension headaches as well as fatigue and exhaustion; which can often be the cause of the headache itself.
It has been suggested that amethysts frequency actually works on healing cells in the brain whilst it aids in relaxation and relieving of stress. Amethyst is also famous for helping to clear negative emotions and addictive behaviour patterns; stimulating personal willpower to overcome addiction, bad habits and overindulgence in many areas.
A little historical titbit for you:
The name Amethyst translates in Greek to, “not drunken.”
This comes from Greek mythology. In the Myth, the god Bacchus was angry and had vowed to descend a hoard of tigers upon the first person who crossed his path. The goddess Amethyst was on her way to give thanks at the shine of the god Diana, when she came across Bacchus and his rage. Before the tigers could eat Amethyst, she was saved by Diana, who turned her into a clear crystal by way of protection. Bacchus, remorseful for the awful fate he had so recklessly caused the young girl, poured the juice of grapes over the stone as a kind of peace offering. This gave the crystal its unique purple colouring.
The greeks gave amethyst crystal meaning; perpetuating a belief that it could prevent the intoxication and rash impulsive behaviour of all who wore it.
A lot of people wear Amethyst or keep it on their body during times when they are working on reducing addictive behaviour in order to support and curb cravings. This stone will support your energy flow to create a sense of calm. Reducing anxieties, clearing feelings of negativity and toxicity and even aiding with better, more restful sleep.
Because amethyst stimulates the crown chakra it helps to clear the mind and still one’s thoughts, allowing for better decision making and stronger will in avoidance of toxic behaviour. Working on the crown moves us into higher levels of consciousness; helping to clear one’s energy field of negative influences and attachments.
To work with Amethyst and align your frequencies, I suggest holding it in your left hand in a very quiet space for 5 minutes a day for two weeks. Focus on your breath and allow your mind to wonder. Don’t “stop” thoughts but try to let them float by. The brain will go into alpha or theta brainwaves which allows the unconscious to become more accessible.
After five minutes (set a timer) write whatever comes to mind for two/three minutes. Don’t overthink it. Re-read your notes after two weeks and see what went on, you will be surprised. Do note that a lot of the work and alignment and balancing will be going on in the few minutes you are holding the stone…..
If you cant handle this, Sleep with the amethyst under your pillow and note your dreams on waking. Again, have a read after two weeks and see what went down in your unconscious hours. Note, as much as amethyst can aid sleep, for some it can be a stimulant. If you find you are not sleeping well with this stone under your pillow try the five minute daily meditation.
