5 September events that you don’t want to miss
Aaaah, September – where the 100% increase in school kids on public transport, and the office filling back up after the summer holidays, can only mean one thing – time to get back to the grind. But just because the cheersing of fruity, alcoholic concoctions before midday because “f*ck it, it’s summer” doesn’t really transcend into Autumn, that doesn’t have to mean that the good vibes are over. From a nationwide protest march, to weekend food and fitness festivals, here’s our selection of the top September events that we reckon you really won’t want to miss.
1) GET CRAFTY: Crafty Fox Market
Head along to the bustling Mercato Metropolitano market in Elephant & Castle, to immerse yourself in the creative community at Crafty Fox Market – who support emerging designers and artists by providing them with opportunities to showcase and sell their work. There will be a total of seventy traders across the two days, whose wares range from more conventional items like illustrations, jewellery, and candles, to more niche creations like terrariums, vintage dolls, and traditional pottery. Pop along to have a browse, or if you fancy getting more involved, have a go at making your resin earring studs, or creating your own macrame plant hanger, at one of the weekend’s many workshops.
When: 7th-8th September, 11:00 – 17:00
Where:
2) CULTURE & COMMUNITY: Peckham Festival
3) PLACARDS AT THE READY: Global Climate Strike
4) TRI-HARD: Missfits Urban Triathlon
Fancy shaking up your exercise routine a bit, and challenging your body? This epic Urban Triathlon starts off at community-focused Digme Studio, and is the perfect opportunity for anyone stuck in a bit of an exercise rut to get their sweat on in three different ways. Kicking off, you’ll be cranking up the gears and practising those hill climbs in a 45-minute spin class, before stretching out those achey legs in a scenic 5k run around the beautiful Regent’s Park, and finally rolling out your mat on the grass and getting re-centred in a calming yoga session. Sound like you’ll be knackered by the end? Don’t worry – Missfits will be providing nutritional goodies like protein shakes and protein energy balls that are bound to have you feeling refuelled in no time.
When: 21st September, 12:00 – 15:00
Where: Digme Fitness Rathbone Square, London, W1T 1FB
5) VINYASA FOR VEGANS: Hackney Yoga and Vegan Festival
Bring the whole family along to Yogific’s first Yoga and Vegan Festival in Hackney, for a whole day of yoga and meditation classes, ethical shopping, and vegan food. Expect a jam-packed timetable of up to forty classes, ranging from yoga classes like Good Morning Vinyasa to start the day, and a Relaxing Hatha Flow, to more relaxing sessions, such as Sound Meditation to help alleviate stress, and a Family Mindfulness Workshop. There’s also a wide range of talks on veganism, exploring higher states of consciousness, and keeping mental health in check, as well as Kids Yoga sessions for the little ones. Be sure to leave time to snack on some delicious vegan street food – such as yummy Caribbean goodness from Renee’s Kitchen, and traditional Palestinian falafels from Sharaf Natural Foods – and do some ethical shopping at the many vegan stalls.
When: 29th September, 10:00 – 19:00
Where: The City Academy, Hackney, Homerton Row, London, E9 6EA
