5 minutes with Danielle Peazer
With a combined following of almost 5 million, Danielle Peazer is something of a household name among 18-25 year-old women. Having professionally trained at the English National Ballet School and with dance credits for the likes of Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, Kylie and Robbie Williams, dance is at the core of the content she produces.
We caught up with the all-around superstar at the launch of her new collaboration with DW Fitness First and Reebok UK.
WHAT DOES ‘TRAIN LIKE A DANCER’ MEAN TO YOU?
For me, training like a dancer encompasses good stamina, good strength and having a dance style you can nail. I want to share how I trained during my career in order to be the best dancer I could be and feel the best – and The Danielle Peazer Method is that!
HOW DOES DANCE EMPOWER YOU & HOW DO YOU HOPE IT EMPOWERS OTHERS?
Dance gives me a sense of freedom and with the right playlist, it makes me feel really strong. I hope this is what it does for other women too!
DO YOU HAVE ANY POSITIVE HEALTHY HABITS?
I try not to be defeated by exercise. For example, at the moment I’m weight training and some parts I really struggle with but I don’t let this be a negative, I focus on what I can do and I’m thankful for that.
WHY DO YOU WANT TO SHAKE-UP THE FEMALE FITNESS SPACE?
I feel the space has become really one dimensional, people can be made to feel they’re not into fitness if they’re not running 10K every day, not lifting heavy weights or not meditating.
I want to show women that there’s so many ways of doing exercise and that’s why I’m working with DW Fitness First and Reebok to create a 10-minute online workout series, enabling thousands of women across the UK to ‘train like a dancer’ on their own terms, boosting their everyday confidence.
THE DANIELLE PEAZER METHOD IS FOR AT-HOME AND IN THE GYM, WHERE DO YOU TRAIN AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT THAT YOU CAN DO IT IN EITHER LOCATION?
Not everyone has access to a gym and not everyone likes to train in-front of other people so it’s so important. I do both, I don’t have a dining table so I have a space I can workout in at home! I also love a class environment and feeding off the energy of other people.
HOW HAVE YOU INCORPORATED DANCE WITH TRADITIONAL HIIT?
In my new dance-inspired workout series I have incorporated HIIT into dance! Each video is only 10 minutes long focusing on working a specific body part like arms and then the recovery that follows is an easy to follow dance move. I’m teaching people how to train like a dancer, not to be a dancer – and showing them how to nail the training and workout in a fun way.
WHAT DOES #BALANCE MEAN TO YOU?
Balance to me is very personal, it’s feeling my most positive within my mind – this is my own measurement. It’s a feeling rather than a regime!
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE JUST STARTING OUT ON THEIR FITNESS JOURNEY?
Do what you enjoy – work out for yourself and for your own body rather than sticking to what you think you should do or what you have seen other people doing. Make sure you’re loving it and doing it for you.
