Gratitude reciprocates, it’s offish
What’s the greatest speech of all time? Yeah, yeah, Winston Churchill and Martin Luther King both had their moments.
But, for pure goosebumps, Matthew McConaughey’s Oscar acceptance speech from 2014 is a belter.
‘It is a scientific fact,’ said the Texan, ‘that gratitude reciprocates.’ And it seems he was on to something.
Dr Robert A Emmons, a professor of psychology at the University of California, continues to do pioneering work on the benefits of practicing gratitude and says clinical trials show it ‘lowers blood pressure, improves immune function and facilitates more efficient sleep’.
