Founder Focus: Jessica Sepel, JSHealth Vitamins
Australian health and wellness brand JSHealth Vitamins, is the brain child of nutritionist and health expert, Jessica Sepel, and as it lands in the UK we catch up with Jessica to find out the secrets of her success.
What was your eureka moment?
When I was studying health and nutrition I started really understanding the power of nutrients and minerals and how they allow the body to thrive. I created the JSHealth blog and started seeing just how many women were sharing the struggle of being caught up in fad dieting and therefore struggling with their relationship with food. I knew there had to be a better way for us all and was determined to share this!
What is your elevator pitch?
When dieting ends, life truly begins. The healthy life is all about feeling good, enjoying food and loving your body.
How did you test your idea?
I didn’t, actually. It’s been an organic journey that continues. I’m on it with our wonderful JSHealth community! In essence, I just connected to my mission and purpose to help women find balance. I couldn’t help but share my personal experience as I knew it resonated with so many. It was a natural step to create products that, along with my balanced philosophy, could help women live their healthiest life.
What advice would you give someone who wants to start a business on their own?
Go for it! If you are passionate about what you do, there is no stopping you. Keep going, even in the hardest and most challenging times. Challenges are part of the journey, so don’t be afraid of them. They make you and the business stronger.
Do you have a mentor or are you one?
Honestly, it sounds corny, but my team are my mentors – I learn so much from them every day. They are real, raw and passionate individuals. My parents are also business owners, so my dad would be a mentor for sure. He always says “Just keep boxing!”
What’s your plan B?
Practice privately as a nutritionist.
What is the most worthwhile investment (time, energy, money) that you have made?
Investing in our work culture. A happy work environment has a ripple effect on one’s life and success. We certainly believe in walking our talk at the JSHealth HQ!
What one failure are you glad you experienced?
It’s not a failure as such but the feelings were similar. Due to a trauma and loss of a friend, I developed awful PTSD and anxiety that caused me to be bedridden for 6 weeks. I couldn’t work, sleep or eat and I was placed on a lot of medication. I felt like I was failing. This was a massive life shift for me and grounded me like no other. I now know more than ever, what truly matters in life. It also allowed me to understand and connect to those who struggle with mental health. Health and love are all that matters in the end. I appreciate my life so much more now.
What is coming up for your Brand?
We are launching two new verticals of the brand in 2021. Watch this space.
What book would you recommend that everyone reads and why?
The Secret – it helped me understand the power of manifesting.
How do you find balance in your daily life?
Switching off social media by 8pm every night has changed my life and allowed for balance and presence.
