Will feminism change the face of wellness?

The global wellness industry is worth $4.2 million – much more than the pharmaceutical industry and diet industry. The dictionary defines ‘wellness’ as ‘the state of being in good health, especially as an actively sought goal.’

It makes sense, then, that wellness, with its focus on mind, body and spiritual self-care, has become a guiding life philosophy for many women; a concept that promises to make us all healthy, wealthy and wise, not to mention, happy. But what exactly determines ‘good health’? And is the wellness industry actually alienating women?

There is a new feminist wellness movement – from women-only clubs and co-working spaces to more wellness travel aimed at women’s empowerment and women of colour moving the industry beyond ‘white’ wellness.

Join Balance at Fora for an exciting panel discussion that explores the depiction of wellness in modern society. Challenging the status quo, our expert speakers will ask the question – is the wellness industry alienating women and eroding self-confidence, or building it?

Talking points:

* Restoring trust in your body and learning how to create a healthy relationship within yourself.

* Giving yourself permission to embrace your body and let go of comparing yourself to others.

* Developing a life of self-care and appreciation of your body.
