In Conversation with Tough Women #FORAHER

March 7, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

ForaHer

On Thursday 7th March, FORA will be hosting In Conversation with Tough Women.

London based photographer, Nyla Sammons has created a portrait series of Tough Women in Sport and Adventure and will be hosting an inspirational panel discussion alongside the photos as part of the #ForaHer International Women’s Day event programme.

Nyla is bringing together three of the ‘Tough Women’ from the exhibition, who have broken through their own boundaries to break records and achieve their goals. At this event, you will be able to learn about their personal journeys – about the highlights of adventure and sport and the challenges they faced. The evening will commence with a short documentary filmed and directed by Nathalie Baker, followed by a panel discussion with Laura Hoggins, Anoushe Husain and Emma Kirk Odunubi

Laura Hoggins

Laura, aka ‘Biceps’, is hugely passionate about strength training, especially for women, and celebrates its mental and physical benefits, whatever your ability. She is an advocate of putting in the graft to achieve your goals, nothing worth having comes easy and nothing looks as good as strong feels. She coaches 1,000’s of clients per year through their first experience of functional weight lifting, and loves seeing how it opens their eyes to transferring these skills into everyday life.

Anoushé Husain

Civil Servant, Paraclimber and champion for all those experiencing barriers and self-limiting beliefs. Anoushé was born missing her right arm below the elbow. She lives with multiple health conditions, is a cancer survivor and a Muslim. Coming from an ethnic minority, Anoushé has never let what society or culture thinks she should do limit her or dictate the direction of her life.

She has won multiple awards including the 2018 Asian Achievers Sports Personality, World Peace and Prosperity Foundation Award and has been included in the Sunday Times Alternative Rich list as well as receiving a Point of Light from the British Prime Minister.

Emma Kirk-Odunubi

A woman who has had a passion for sport from a young age, she sought to take on sporting challenges for charity after multiple family members died from cancer. Over the last 4 years she has completed an indoor Iron Man, 4 marathons, 10 half marathons and most notably 24hrs of burpees! During this feat, she completed 7015 burpees and became the youngest person to ever take on the challenge.

On a daily basis she continues to coach runners on track as part of Track Life LDN, educate as a running footwear buyer; and train in running and CrossFit to seek new challenges to keep proving women what they can do.

The Tough Women exhibition features: Pip Stewart, Beth French, Kiko Matthews, Laura Hoggins, Anna Blackwell, Anoushé Husain, Ruqsana Begum, Laura Kennington, Emma Kirk-Odunubi and Antonia Bolingbroke-Kent

Drinks from 6.30pm, starts promptly at 7pm.
