A Sunday afternoon dedicated to exploring what ‘Self Care’ does and does not look like, what it means to us, and how we can incorporate new forms of self care into our lives. Like anything, there is no ‘one size fits all’ advice we can give you, we encourage everyone to figure out what self care means to them through trial and error, exploration, and curiosity!

LET’S DISPEL SOME MYTHS AROUND SELF CARE….

‘Self care’ isn’t just a buzzword; although yes it is thrown around in magazines and on social media so often that sometimes it’s hard to know what it really means.

‘Self care’ isn’t selfish; when there’s so much inequality in the world it’s easy to think we’re self-obsessed when we focus on making ourselves feel comfortable in the world, but we need to look after ourselves if we want to show up for others.

‘Self care’ doesn’t just mean eating less and working out more; it is not about achieving a preconceived notion of ‘health’, it’s about finding out what works for you.

Self care is so much more than bubble baths and candles, ALTHOUGH WE DO LOVE THOSE THINGS! Self care can be basic, it can be boring, for many people it is incredibly simple.

This event will deep dive into the concepts around self care, exploring why selfish self-care is often necessary in this day & age, and the different ways we can care for ourselves that don’t involve diets, restriction, intense exercise or guilt.

The day will be split into 4 segments:

LEARN: Self Care through the eyes of Nicola Rae-Wickham

The incredible Nicola, better known for her brand A Life More Inspired is a creative mentor, a coach, a mother and one of our favourite Instagram Story-ers, always leaving us smiling and inspired. In a short 20-min talk, she’ll be exploring creativity, self-care & journalling, elements of “wellness” that are often overlooked in comparison to the diet/exercise paradigm.

BREATHE: Workshop from Eugenia Rosa (Women’s Mentor and Embodied Arts Practitioner)

In Body Wisdom for Self-Care you will experience the potential and power of the body to return us to wellness, vitality and self-awareness through the power of breath, inquiry, mindful movement, and joining in community with others. Rest the brain, ease the mental load and come back home to ourselves, shutting away the relentless messages and opinions of those around us, the media and the world at large.

EAT: Lunch!!! @ 1pm – 2pm

We will be taking a break in the day to eat together upstairs in the restaurant of The Book Club after a short mindful eating meditation led by The Diet Boycott’s Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist Devinia Noel. The price of the meal is not included in the ticket price, everyone will need to order and pay individually. Check out the full menu here:
CREATE: Oil making workshop from Kirsteen Jones
To finish the afternoon, a fun & interactive workshop focused on making your own oil that you can integrate into your self-care routine at home if you wish. You’ll have the opportunity to learn about oils, smell and taste them. Once you’ve identified your favourite oil, you’ll be able to make your very own bespoke combination to take home with you.
