Be Kind in Spring
There’s a cupboard in my house that, until recently, I was scared to open, lest I perish under an avalanche of things I’d promised to sort out ‘soon’.
So, inspired by the mega organised house of my friend Chris, I embarked on a traditional spring clean. Now I’m feeling all smug and tidy, I’d like to share some tips.
Having a clear out is a great all round way of being kind, try these:
1. Find out if your local library wants books. If so, edit your shelves and donate. Remember, you can always borrow them back.
2. Check out local charities and charity shops. Make sure any donated clothes are clean and in an orderly fashion, so they’re easier for the shop volunteers to deal with.
3. There’ll be a few things you just know a friend or loved one would like, so gift them.
It is an act of self-compassion to get organised because it makes your life easier, too. Plus you’ll get that warm feeling of having done a good deed by giving away your unwanted stuff to deserving homes.
The Little Book of Kindness by Bernadette Russell (£7.99, Orion Spring) is out now.
