The natural energy drink inspired by Everest climbers
Tenzing is one of those ideas, that makes you think, ‘Why hasn’t anyone thought of that before?’ Energy drinks have a reputation for being artificial, packed with sugar and caffeine and so not exactly healthy. What if you could create a more natural, healthier version?
That was the thought Huib van Bockel had after eight years as the UK and European Marketing Director for Red Bull, and, after forays into publishing a book and launching a not-for-profit fashion brand, that was exactly what he did: combining his passions for travel and outdoor sports, like hiking, surfing and skiing, and the adventure of starting a business to create a healthier, more natural energy drink.
And so, TENZING, the all-natural, low sugar energising drink, came to be.
Bockel swapped chemicals, sugar and artificial sweeteners for plant power, including six of nature’s very best ingredients: green coffee, guarana, beet sugar, Himalayan rock salt, green tea and lemon juice, to deliver a 100% natural drink that hydrates and gives energy at the same time without sending your sugar levels rocketing (and it’s only 55 calories!).
As well as the recipe being inspired by a 100% natural energising formula he discovered on a trip to the Himalayas, the name is in honour of the late Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, one of the first two men to reach the summit of Everest. The brand continues to work closely with the family and, in memory of Norgay, 5% of all profits go towards funding environmental projects in Nepal. The first of which was to build sustainable bins on the route to Everest.
Not only creating a positive impact on the world, Bockel’s realising his own goals — not experiencing one high but enjoying the highs and lows of the journey with his dedicated team.
Our verdict: ‘Welcome to the future. An all-natural energy drink.’
