LIVE ART PERFORMANCE BY DEREK GORES AT GRAND OPENING OF LUMAS GALLERY, SEVEN DIALS

Head to the new LUMAS Gallery flagship in Seven Dials for its grand opening, featuring a live interactive art performance from LUMAS artist-in-residence Derek Gores, who will be in the gallery for one-day-only, creating an exciting art installation for the public.

A former student of BFA Rhode Island School of Design, Gores is a gallery favourite and is considered part of the New Contemporary Movement, playing in a post-internet and post-pop-art vista. Derek Gores recycles magazines, maps, data and more to create striking and dynamic artworks with a balance of detail and playfulness in each piece. Rearranging the scraps, he is able to form a surrealist image, where from afar, a nearly photo-realistic image comes into focus. However, as the viewer gets near, the small scraps reveal themselves to be other pictures, song lyrics, charts and patterns.

Having amassed over 29 galleries around the globe, LUMAS – the unique gallery-store concept – is bringing a contemporary edge to London with the new Seven Dials flagship. Along with the signature photographic works, the gallery will also display design objects and hand-picked books, adding to the dynamism. The gallery has a distinctive layout, displaying artwork in a home-like environment, allowing the art itself to inform any room or space, and more than 3,000 works by 250 world-renowned established artists and rising stars have been featured already.
