To celebrate the opening of The Tide, London’s first ever riverside linear park (featuring artwork by Damien Hirst and Allen Jones) on Greenwich Peninsula, the creative neighbourhood will be hosting a free festival for art, music & wellness, Turning Tides over the two weekends of 5th-7th July and 12th-14th July 2019.

Turning Tides festival is a free music, arts and wellness festival for London. It celebrates the opening of London’s first linear park – designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro the co-designers of Manhattan’s High Line.

Expect music curated by Village Underground – hosts of one of the most exciting nightlife scenes in East London – yoga by the riverfront, and cultural happenings.

Choose your own moments of change. Lose yourself in music by the likes of Gaz Coombes, Nadine Shah, Laura Mvula and Kwabs, discover the present through meditation – all along London’s first riverside linear park at Greenwich Peninsula.

What’s Going On?

  • MUSIC: Featuring consummate rocker and songwriter Gaz Coombes, East London’s cultural collective and music venue Village Underground, who have curated a revolving programme of international and local musical artists spanning both weekends, Ethiopian musician Mulatu Astatke, Los Angeles-based violin experimentalist, Sudan Archive, New Orleans funk and hiphop ensemble Tank and the Bangas and Grammy-award winning Malian musician Oumou Sangaré. Closing the Turning Tides Festival will be The River Knows, an unforgettable event with musical director Dave Okumu entitled celebrating the geological and metaphorical power of the river, the inspiration of The Tide
  • ART: Launching the festival on Friday 5th July, LA-based conceptual artist GERONIMO will reveal her bold, large-scale installation of 25 inflated water droplets, spanning between 1 and 7 metres tall, which will inhabit The Tide throughout the duration of the festival, and will play set to a flamboyant drag show performance by Sink the Pink
  • WELLBEING: Throughout the Festival there will be a number of wellness and shoreline activities, including London-based Morning Gloryville offering an energetic sober celebration of music, yoga and reiki sessions, group tai chi sessions, yoga and dance sessions
  • FOOD: Across both weekends will be a rolling line-up of shoreline feasts on artist duo Studio Morison’s Seafood Disco Picnic table, London’s longest picnic table at 27 metres, as well as other dining options including, ,Ardoa and the Turning Tides Food Market. Ahead of the official launch in August, Mama Fuego, a riverside dining and drinking destination part of The Tide, is inviting guests to enjoy some delicious coffees and alcoholic refreshments, from beers and to carefully crafted cocktails in the outdoor area.

    The venue will feature a restaurant, milk-bar cafe, full service bakery, private garden with an Argentinian barbecue overlooking the river and exclusive after-hours drinking dens.

  • FAMILY: London-based, Argentinian ceramicist and illustrator Kinska will transform neighbouring NOW Gallery with her My Opera House exhibition, inviting visitors into a real human sized garden of ceramic creations.
