BALANCE x Healthspan: The results
When it comes to eating and drinking things that are good for us, most of us are reasonably knowledgable. Generally speaking, fresh fruit and vegetables: good. Sugar: bad. But when it comes to supplements we’re probably less certain. That’s where Healthspan – the UK’s leading direct supplier of vitamins and supplements – comes in. Healthspan has created a wellbeing eco-system that consists of an app, tracker and smart scales to ensure you get a personalised supplement experience that’s created for you.
MADE TO MEASURE
But why go to such hi-tech trouble? Well, quite simply, vitamins and supplements shouldn’t be a one-size-fits-all thing. It’s something Healthspan feels passionately about. Because all bodies and lifestyles are different, supplements should reflect this, which resulted in the creation of the app, tracker and smart scales.
The three products combine to help personalise your supplement experience. The app works in tandem with the fitness tracker and allows the user to monitor key areas of health.
The tracker detects motion, distance, calories and more, while you simply add a few extra details to guarantee optimum results. The smart scales complete the set and monitor weight, muscle mass, BMI, bone density, visceral fat and water content. And, at £59.95, they’re an absolute snip.
A TON OF FUN
The activity tracker even gives you a wellbeing score, based on how active you’ve been, the quality of your nutrition and what supplements you’ve taken. Even if you don’t hit a perfect score of 100, feedback so far says that consistent high scoring has seen users’ mood and wellbeing shoot through the roof, which is ideal for what can traditionally be a gloomy time of year.
Over time, the app will provide personalised supplements based on an individual’s biometrics and answers to some lifestyle questions. Download the free app now from Google Play and the App Store.
LACKING ENERGY
Name: Natalie Armstrong Age: 30 Fitness level: ‘Healthy’
I’ve learned a great deal this past few weeks. I’d always been confident I was living a healthy life, yet always had the nagging feeling I could do more.
Within a couple of weeks of using the three Healthspan products (app, smart scales, wearable tech), I’ve already had a specially-tailored multivitamin sent to my house. And I feel even better.
Getting up and running isn’t dissimilar to a diary app: you just key in a few bits and pieces. It’s the sort of thing you can do on a morning commute.
I was impressed; as someone who goes to the gym a good deal and leads a relatively healthy lifestyle, I’ve been recommended a customised multivitamin that suggests more calcium (for strong bones), vitamin E (good for cholesterol) as well as 21 other nutrients, all engineered to suit my specific lifestyle.
It’s all very new to me, and I see no reason not to keep it going.
THE LAPSED DAD
Name: James Gill Age: 39 Fitness level: ‘Laughable’
My attitude towards vitamins and supplements, much like my taste in music, is trapped in the Nineties.
Back then, the Gill family would share a communal vat of tablets that lived in the kitchen. Were they doing any good? Who cares! Just take them.
So when the chance came along to have supplements personalised to my lifestyle, I was keen. After all, this was a significant step forward. Given Healthspan offers the all-
encompassing approach, via the scales, tracker and app, I knew the process would be thorough. And so it has proved.
Logging in details and answering a few questions about my lifestyle only took a few moments, with Healthspan creating a personalised vitamin just for me. The questionnaire deduced that I needed more thiamin (good for energy), niacin (for overall health), vitamin B6 (good for blood) and more, with tablets added to water as a drink.
Does this mean I’d now consider listening to non-Nineties music? Ha ha ha! No. Not a chance.
KEEN TO STEP UP
Name: Rebecca Gillam Age: 28 Fitness level: ‘Acceptable’
Having had a cold for about three months, I was slightly sceptical as to how much an app, wearable tech and vitamins could help me. But since dabbling with veganism I’d been struggling to get enough protein, which had been taking its toll on energy and immunity, so the prospect of a bespoke supplement was not to be sniffed at.
While the tracker totted up steps, I inputted my daily food intake and exercise, and answered simple questions on topics ranging from diet to workout habits. On the back of this, I was recommended a personalised chocolate vegan protein and told how much I should take daily. It’s now arrived and I have to say that the packaging is beautiful and the protein drink is delicious.
