FOUND

The Foundling Museum, a hidden gem in the middle of central London, offers this enticing prospect with more than 60 artists from different creative disciplines (including Antony Gormley, Marina Warner, Brian Eno and Jarvis Cocker) invited to contribute either a piece of work or an object they’ve ‘found’ and have kept over the years, because of its significance to them.

THEATRE

PHAEDRA(s) Odéon – Théâtre de l’Europe

This promises to be a radical retelling of the classic Greek tale of forbidden love between a mother and her stepson – and is part of LIFT 2016 (London International Festival of Theatre) at The Barbican. With French screen icon, Isabelle Huppert, playing the title role, I’ve got goose pimples just thinking about it.

ROOFTOP FILM CLUB

It’s 9pm and still light outside. You really fancy a film but don’t want to shut yourself away in a dark cinema. Well, fear not, for the Rooftop Film Club has the solution. Setting up unique screenings across roof terraces throughout London, settle down to watch movies such as Cinema Paradiso, Dr Strangelove, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and more as the sun goes down.

MUSIC

MELTDOWN

Curated by Elbow main man, Guy Garvey, treats include the great I Am Kloot, Femi Kuti and the stunningly talented Laura Marling. The festival is followed by a special Refugee Week event, in which artists and musicians explore tales from refugee communities, including The Orchestra of Syrian Musicians playing with Blur’s Damon Albarn.

SUMMER EXHIBITION

No London summer is complete without a walk through the legendary Summer Exhibition which, this year, according to co-ordinator Richard Wilson RA, is set to be ‘unpredictable, stimulating and startling’.
Famous as the world’s largest open submission show, the exhibition features a diverse range of contemporary artists showcasing a variety of work including sculpture, paintings, photography, film and architecture. Add to this the visually breathtaking courtyard installation by architect and sculptor Ron Arad RA for a summer feast to satiate any creative’s ravenous appetite.
